The Caritas Chamber Chorale will perform on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. at the Shrine of St. Joseph in the Stirling neighborhood of Long Hill Township to conclude its series of three concerts of sacred choral music for Christmas, titled “The World’s Desire.”
Barbara Sanderman will direct Caritas in a program that celebrates Christ’s coming at Christmas with alternately reflective and spirited a cappella choral music. Through the music, the group will contemplate Christ’s mother, his birth, and his redemptive sacrifice, and welcome Christ — The World’s Desire — with joy.
Featured works include Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo’s “Spotless Rose,” Edvard Grieg’s “Ave maris stella,” and Peter Warlock’s “Bethlehem Down,” along with arrangements of well-known carols. Caritas will also present “And Have You Come with Us to Dwell?” by Wayne Dietterick, composer in residence and assistant conductor, who will conduct his piece and several others.
The two preceding Caritas concerts will be held on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in East Brunswick, and Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. at Incarnation Church in Ewing.
The concerts are free and open to the public.
A freewill offering will benefit the Pierluigi Fabbiani Nursery School, the Gianni Diurni Primary School, and the Foyer de l’Enfance Paolo Di Nardo Orphanage, run by the Adorno Fathers St. Francis Caracciolo Mission in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa.
Founded in 2005, the Caritas Chamber Chorale is a more than 20-voice choir dedicated to serving the poorest of the poor through the art of sacred music.
