Competitors attempt impossible at Tank Pull benefit

Fifty-one teams competed in the 14th NJ Army Tank Pull Challenge in Clifton. It’s a physical test of endurance, as competitors make a determined effort to overcome the impossible odds of moving an immovable object — an 80,000-pound tank mounted on a flatbed truck.

This year, Catholic Charities of the Paterson Diocese organized the Tank Pull with the Knights of Columbus to benefit military veterans, especially those who have been wounded in combat. Catholic Charities’ Supportive Services for Veteran Families gives back to hundreds of Veterans in need throughout New Jersey each day.

The event has raised more than $1.9 million for wounded warriors and veterans in need.

The results of the Tank Pull are:

• Fastest Pull: 7Plumbers Local 24 (5.56s), IBEW Local 102 Men (5.60s), and IBEW Pulling Badgers (6.09s).

• Lowest Weight: Team Columbia (187lb), PSD Dominick Calabrese Assembly Knights of Columbus (201lb), and IBEW Local 743 Veteran’s Committee (204lb).

On social media, Catholic Charities thanked the teams, sponsors, and volunteers for their support, enthusiasm, and teamwork.

“This event is our attempt to show our brave veterans our gratitude, uniting the community around real-life superheroes that represent patriotism, loyalty, and courage,” Catholic Charities posted.
