The Marquette Council 588 of the Knights of Columbus launched its 2026–2027 fraternal year on July 16, with its installation of officers ceremony at Our Lady of the Lake (OLL) Parish in Sparta, N.J. The ceremony entrusted a new slate of officers — led by Chaplain Father Richard Carton, pastor of OLL, and Grand Knight Jeff Dickinson — with guiding one of the world’s oldest Knights of Columbus councils into another year of faith, leadership, and service supporting the faith communities of OLL, St. Thomas Aquin Parish in Ogdensburg, N.J., and Immaculate Conception Parish in Franklin, N.J.
Through charitable works, faith formation, family programs, and civic engagement, Council 588 remains committed to building disciples of Jesus Christ through the principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism.
The new fraternal year is especially significant as Council 588 continues celebrating its 125th anniversary while joining the nation in commemorating the 250th Anniversary of the United States. The Council also begins the year with strong momentum after earning back-to-back Star Council Awards, the Knights of Columbus’ highest recognition for excellence in membership, charitable service, faith formation, and council operations.
Founded in 1901, Marquette Council 588 has spent 125 years living the vision of Blessed Michael McGivney by serving its parish communities and the people of Sussex County, New Jersey, and the nation through faith in action.
