Youth learn to pray to Jesus in adoration at Branchville parish

Our Lady Queen of Peace (OLQP) Parish in Branchville hosted Eucharistic adoration for youth, grades 7 to 12, on the evening of Aug. 23 in the church.

About 40 teens and 25 adults from OLQP, other Sussex County parishes, and parishes around the Paterson Diocese and in eastern Pennsylvania attended the event. Father Philip-Michael Tangorra, OLQP’s pastor and defender of the bond in the Tribunal, led adoration.

Adoration included the playing of recordings of contemporary worship music and a talk by a young adult. It was followed by an opportunity for confession.

Participants prayed using a “My Teen Prayer & Adoration Journal,” written by Kelly Janiec, an OLQP co-youth minister, through her Gracious + Merciful Designs. She coordinated the adoration event with Lauren Dexter, also a co-youth minister at the parish.

During the evening, teens also learned how to pray the rosary and get into a reverent mindset during adoration.

“We wanted young people to understand adoration — how to pray and what the Eucharist means. We also want them to know they can have a relationship with Jesus — just talk to him,” Janiec said. “It was good to see the teens living out their faith. They got to see other young people, who aren’t afraid to love God.”

“My Teen Prayer & Adoration Journal” is located at graciousandmercifuldesigns.com and is available at Amazon and other book retailers.

OLQP and other Sussex County parishes plan to alternate hosting future youth Eucharistic adoration events. For more information, call the parish at 973-948-3185.
