The annual Morris County St. Patrick’s Day Parade festivities began on the morning of March 14 with a Mass at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Morristown, N.J.
Descendants of early Irish immigrants, along with others who consider themselves Irish by blood or by heart, first attended the 9:30 a.m. Mass at Assumption in Morristown’s “Dublin” neighborhood. Afterwards, at noon, New Jersey’s largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade stepped off. This family-friendly event has been a Morris County tradition since 1979.
Msgr. John Hart, Assumption’s pastor, led several priests in concelebrating the Mass. The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, the Irish American Association of North Jersey, and local parishioners organized the liturgy. Among those in attendance was Michael G. Bannon, grand marshal of this year’s parade, while a bagpipe band also played.
