Mass honors religious for bringing ‘hope and light to our world’

The Paterson Diocese on Feb. 1 joined the Universal Church in celebrating the World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life and the Jubilee of Consecrated Life as part of its Jubilee Year of Hope 2025 observances during a Mass in St. Philip the Apostle Church in Clifton.

More than 140 religious priests, brothers, and sisters from congregations that serve the diocese participated in the Mass. Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney celebrated the liturgy. Many religious priests concelebrated the Mass with Msgr. John Hart, diocesan Clergy Personnel director and pastor of Assumption Parish in Morristown, and Father Jared Brogan, master of ceremonies and diocesan Office of Worship director. The liturgy opened with a procession of representatives from at least 20 congregations carrying candles up the main aisle.

“We are grateful for all of our sisters, brothers, and priests serving in the Diocese of Paterson and beyond, who bring hope and light to our world,” Bishop Sweeney posted on social media.

After, a reception was held in the parish school auditorium. Lia Klein, director of the Passaic Neighborhood Center for Women, presented a mission update.
