Franklin Partnership thanked for feeding Sussex seniors in need

/

On March 12, Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney met with and thanked Meals on Wheels partners, staff, and Food Pantry volunteers for their ongoing outreach to feed local seniors in need, conducted through the Partnership for Social Services in Franklin, N.J. His visit coincided with the annual March for Meals campaign.

March for Meals is an annual, month-long, national campaign to promote the Meals on Wheels initiative. Through the program, the Partnership in Franklin, part of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Paterson, provides a hot, nutritionally balanced meal to Sussex County residents aged 60 and older who are homebound, isolated, and unable to prepare their own meals. Volunteers also give clients companionship and check on their well-being during their visits.

During his March 12 visit, Bishop Sweeney prayed with and spoke to the Partnership staff and volunteers. He thanked them for serving a corner of Sussex County with limited resources. Later that day, he also visited a local senior, Reginald Hocking, to deliver a meal and engage in prayer and conversation.

Each year, March for Meals commemorates the March 1972 addition of a national nutrition program for seniors to the Older Americans Act. This milestone supported the rapid development of the Meals on Wheels network.
