Beyond The Beacon episode 61: What are the old and new ways Franciscans pass on the faith?

Each of our guests is a priest. One is a doctor and educator, another a future immigration lawyer, and the other has a heart for social justice at the border, on death row, on the streets, and in his suburban backyard. They are Father Chris VanHaight, O.F.M., Father Matthew Pravetz, O.F.M., and Father Emmet Murphy, O.F.M. These Franciscan friars have traveled diverse paths and currently live and work in the Diocese of Paterson.

They join Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney and Jai Agnish for episode 61 of Beyond The Beacon to discuss how they live out the Franciscan charism.

They live in community. Father Chris is the guardian of the friar’s retirement house in Butler, N.J. on the grounds of St. Anthony of Padua parish, where Father Matt is pastor, and where Father Emmet can be found saying his morning prayers and helping at the parish food pantry.
