Youth learn to trust in Jesus during Vacation Bible School in Clifton

Without having to travel far, children went on a makeshift Alaskan adventure during Vacation Bible School (VBS) at St. Philip the Apostle Church in Clifton, July 28 to Aug 1. The weeklong event, themed “True North: Trusting Jesus in a Wild World,” brought some popular stories from the Bible to life for the youths.

The VBS welcomed Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney when he visited on July 29. He greeted each of the five groups, which enjoyed various activities, including crafts, games, skits, and snacks. The décor in the school immersed the youth in Alaska. It included campgrounds and cutouts of animals found at the Alaskan frontier.

Because it is the Jubilee Year of Hope, the VBS also featured an artistic replica of the Holy Doors found at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, which Father David Monteleone, pastor, blessed on the VBS’s first day. Susan Stierlin, co-director of the VBS, along with her mother, Paula Mutter, led the campers for the opening and closing each day. An army of volunteers, consisting of teens and adults, assists with the activities.
