A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Feb. 6 at Holy Family Chapel in the Convent Station neighborhood of Morris Township for Sister of Charity Ethel Beneville, formerly Sister Ann Pauline, who died on Jan. 30 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center in Watchung. She was 87.
Sister Beneville was a Sisters of Charity of St. Elizabeth member for 68 years.
Born in Dumont, Sister Beneville entered the Sisters of Charity in 1956. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Elizabeth University (then a college) in Convent Station and an MRE degree in religious education from Seattle University in Washington.
Sister Beneville was an educator in New Jersey and Montana. She taught at Corpus Christi School in Hasbrouck Heights, Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Tenafly; St. Michael School in Newark, St. Matthew School in Ridgefield, St. Aloysius School in Jersey City, the former Bayley Ellard High School in Madison, the former St. Joseph High School in Paterson, Loyola/Sacred Heart High School in Missoula, Mont., St. Vincent Academy in Newark, and the Academy of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station.
In addition, Sister Beneville was a computer system manager at St. Elizabeth University (then a college) and a teacher assistant at the Children’s Center of Morristown Memorial Hospital and served in the Financial Office at the Sisters of Charity.
Sister Beneville was also an artist and writer. She shared her creative writing and planned special liturgies and annual retreat materials for the Motherhouse community. She loved her family.
Sister Beneville is survived by the Sisters of Charity family members throughout the United States and Canada. She is predeceased by her parents; her brothers Raymond, Vernon, and Paul; and her sisters, Florence Cudworth and Carol Hansen.
