Rose Ellen Nagle-Girgenti, retired St. Joseph’s administrator, 80

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on April 1 at St. Anthony Church in Hawthorne for Rose Ellen Nagle-Girgenti of Hawthorne, who died on March 26. She was 80.

Born in the Bronx, Nagle-Girgenti had lived in Hawthorne for the past 42 years. She started her career at St. Mary’s Hospital in Hoboken with a nursing degree. She then served as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital, now St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, in Paterson. There, she later became the director and then vice president of continuing education for 40 years until her retirement in 2020.

In appreciation for her efforts, Nagle-Girgenti received many awards, including a Human Service Award, and was named Woman of the Year by the Paterson Diocese.

Nagle-Girgenti served as the Passaic County Democratic Party vice chairwoman and as a Hawthorne Democratic County committeewoman. In 1980, she was elected as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention in New York City. Nagle-Girgenti worked tirelessly to support the political career of her husband, former N.J. State Sen. John A. Girgenti.

Nagle-Girgenti was also the daughter-in-law of the late Joseph G. (1998) and Angie T. (2021) Girgenti; sister-in-law of Joseph P. Girgenti and his wife, Rosemary, of Hawthorne; aunt of the late Farah Lawrence (2021) and her surviving husband, Michael, Anthony Girgenti and his wife, Karen, Nicole Girgenti, and Raina Cioletti and her husband, Jeffrey; and great aunt of Gianni, Haley, Michael, Sierra, Ashton, Giuliana, Jackson, Joey, Caydence, Kaia, and Jameson. Friends and colleagues will also miss her.
