Assumption College for Sisters (ACS) honored Steve and Kristy Goulart, Chris Powers, Rod Donnelly, and Msgr. Geno Sylva for their outstanding service to the Church and community at its 24th Annual Caring Basket Gala on March 27 at the Sheraton Parsippany.
Msgr. Geno Sylva, rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Paterson and diocesan vicar for special projects, received the Education Award. He is a founding member of the Paterson Prep Charter School and the Young Prophets Teen Outreach.
The Goularts of North Palm Beach, Fla., formerly of Mendham, were honored with The Family Life Award. Kristy Goulart is a former member of the ACS Board of Trustees. Steve and Kristy have participated in many activities at ACS as benefactors and friends. The couple is also active with the Tri-County Scholarship Fund.

Rod Donnelly and Christopher Powers of Donnelly Industries received The Spirit of the Heart Award. They were instrumental in renovating ACS after its move from Mendham to Denville and continue to assist with ongoing renovations.
Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney attended the gala and delivered the opening prayer. Bishop Emeritus Arthur J. Serratelli attended as the Goularts’ guest. Sister of Christian Charity Marie Pauline Demek, ACS president, welcomed more than 360 attendees.
Sponsored by the Sisters of Christian Charity of Mendham, ACS is a fully accredited, Catholic two-year liberal arts college offering a two-year liberal arts and theology program. Students are religious sisters from various congregations and lay students. The gala raises scholarship funds for about 20 sisters each year from developing nations to live and study at ACS.
