Pope Leo shares smiles with Filippini Sisters in Rome

On July 12, Pope Leo XIV greeted participants in the General Chapters of several religious institutes, including the Filippini Sisters. He welcomed them on the occasion of their chapters and assemblies, recognizing their gathering to pray, discuss, and reflect on what God asks of them for the future. He also expressed his gratitude for their work and fidelity.

Every six years, delegates of the Pontifical Institute of the Religious Teachers Filippini gather in Rome for a General Chapter to elect a new Mother General and a General Council. As a Pontifical Institute, the sisters are under the direct protection of the Holy Father and report directly to him. One of the great honors of this sacred gathering is an audience with His Holiness.

Pope Leo welcomed the Filippini Sisters at Castel Gandolfo on July 12. Among the delegates was Sister Ascenza Tizzano, the Filippini’s mother general — and an American — who presented a special gift to the pope.

The Filippini Sisters’ meeting with the Holy Father included those who have served in the Paterson Diocese, where the sisters operate Villa Walsh Academy in Morristown, St. Gerard Majella School in Paterson, and Holy Spirit School in Pequannock.
