A Mass of Christian Burial was held on July 17 at St. John of the Cross Parish in Vero Beach, Fla., for retired Deacon Charles (“Charlie”) Mallory, who died on July 13. He was 91.
In 1978, Deacon Mallory was ordained a permanent deacon of the Paterson Diocese, N.J. He served Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in the Pompton Plains neighborhood of Pequannock, N.J., for 30 years before moving to Florida in 2009 for family reasons. There, he served St. John of the Cross Parish in Vero Beach.
Born March 28, 1935, in Union City, N.J., Deacon Mallory was the son of the late Charles Benjamin Mallory and Ann Frieda Soehren Mallory. He attended St. Anastasia Catholic School in Teaneck, N.J., and Teaneck High School prior to graduating from Farleigh Dickinson University in 1957.
In 1962, Deacon Mallory married Felicia Princiotta, and together they had five sons: Charles, William, Patrick, Joseph, and Philip Mallory.
Charles worked in sales for ADP in New York City.
In 2008, Deacon Mallory and his wife moved to Vero Beach and attended St. John of the Cross, where he served as a permanent deacon. He worked in hospital ministry and belonged to the Knights of Columbus.
Deacon Mallory is survived by his wife; his five sons; his 15 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; his sister, Ann Kryzwick; his brother and sister-in-law, George and Maria Sayre; and other loving family and friends.
