Catholics from around the Paterson Diocese united in Morristown, N.J., to proclaim “Equal Rights for Babies in the Womb” on Saturday, Sept. 5 during the Monthly Mass and Procession for Life with Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney at St. Margaret of Scotland Church.
The event began with an early-morning Mass at St. Margaret’s, celebrated by Bishop Sweeney. Several priests concelebrated the liturgy, including Father Duberney Villamizar, pastor of St. Margaret’s and diocesan vicar for Hispanic Affairs. Several diocesan seminarians also joined and participated in the Mass.
After the Mass, the faithful processed prayerfully down Speedwell Avenue to a Planned Parenthood clinic promoting the dignity of every human life — from conception to natural death. Many marchers carried signs in English or Spanish, such as “Equal Rights for Babies in the Womb.” At Planned Parenthood, Bishop Sweeney led the rosary, praying for an end to abortion.
The marchers then returned to St. Margaret’s to pray before the Blessed Sacrament.
A Mass and procession for life are held on the first Saturday of the month at 8 a.m. at St. Margaret’s. Priests and faithful from around the diocese are invited to join.
