No athletic ability needed to participate in Thomas A. Haltigan Memorial Pro-Life 5K

Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney will lead the prayer gathering and speak before the start of the St. Cecilia’s LIFE Runners’ Thomas A. Haltigan Memorial Pro-Life 5K on Sunday, Nov. 3, at Assumption Parish in Morristown.

Sign-ins for the 5K are at 1:30 p.m., followed by the prayer gathering at 2 p.m. The 5K starts at 2:30 p.m.

All age groups are welcome to run, walk, jog, or stroll for the 5K. No athletic ability is required. The route will follow the sidewalks from Assumption Church toward Speedwell Avenue, stopping briefly at Planned Parenthood to join a peaceful and prayerful protest. Participants will return to Assumption Church through Morristown. The 5K is not timed. Light refreshments will be served.

This family-friendly event is named after the late Thomas A. Haltigan, who led the pro-life ministry at St. Cecilia Parish in Rockaway for many years as it expanded and was renamed. The 5K is a fundraiser for the ministry, now known as Rockaway Denville Catholic Respect Life Ministry. It supports many pro-life organizations and programs and hosts events such as a Pro-Life Community Evening. St. Cecilia’s LIFE Runners is part of the ministry.

“We are delighted with the strong support for our Pro-Life 5K from Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney. At the same time, we are pleased to remember a great pro-life advocate, Thomas Haltigan, in a special way,” said John Byrne, the 5K coordinator who heads St. Cecilia’s LIFE Runners. “We are also delighted with the support of the many people of all ages who will join us on Nov. 3, and we are thankful to our sponsors, donors, and volunteers.”

The entry fee is $25. Donations accepted. Make checks payable to St. Cecilia Church. Write ‘LIFE Runners’ in the memo section of the check.
