Mary M. ‘Mitzi’ Galinski, wife of late deacon, 93

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Feb. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Church in Andover for Mary M. “Mitzi” Galinski, who died on Feb. 9 at the United Methodist Communities at Bristol Glen in Newton. She was 93.

Mitzi was the wife of the late Deacon Edmund Galinski, ordained in the first Permanent Diaconate class in the Paterson Diocese in 1974. Deacon Galinski ministered for many years at Good Shepherd, where Mitzi was active in lay ministry. He previously served Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in the Swartswood neighborhood of Stillwater Township and St. John Vianney Parish in the Stockholm neighborhood of Hardyston Township. He died in 2015.

Born in Carbondale, Pa., Mitzi attended Lackawanna Business College. She held several clerical positions, including secretary to the finance and accounting officer at Picatinny Arsenal and assistant to the vice president of Pennsylvania Railroad. She also worked for M&M Mars.

At Good Shepherd, Mitzi was an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist and lector. She also belonged to the Cursillo Team, a faith-building mission with the church, and enjoyed traveling.

In addition to her parents, Mitzi was predeceased by her husband, Deacon Edmund Galinski. She is survived by her children, Michael J. Galinski (Vicki), Mary Ellen Russell (Jim), and Edmund Galinski (Elizabeth); her grandchildren, Ed, Jason, Michael, Emileigh, Benjamin, Maddie, PJ, and Molly; and her great-grandchildren, Nathan, Logan, Cecilia, Raymond, Abii Mae, Evangeline, and Liliana.

Mitzi’s visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home in Newton.
