The gift of marital love was celebrated and renewed on Nov. 1, All Saints Day, during the Paterson Diocesan annual Silver and Gold Anniversary Mass at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Paterson, N.J., where 71 couples married 25, 50, and up to 70 years ago marked their milestone anniversaries.
During the Mass, these happy couples also renewed their wedding vows before Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney, the main celebrant of the liturgy, and several priests from around the diocese who concelebrated the liturgy. The Diocesan Family Life Office coordinated the Mass.
As on their wedding days, the couples exchanged vows, held each other’s hands, and renewed their love, fidelity, and commitment in Holy Matrimony. The couples celebrated often with their families present.
The couples received certificates signed by Bishop Sweeney honoring their anniversaries. Each couple was invited to meet the bishop and take a photo with him.
