The Tri-County Scholarship Fund will honor industry leaders at its 43rd Annual Awards Dinner on Oct. 28 at the Legacy Castle in the Pompton Plains neighborhood of Pequannock Township.

Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney, who serves on Tri-County’s board, will publicly welcome and thank guests and bless the evening.

Three honorees will receive Tri-County’s Hall of Fame Award for exceptional leadership and commitment to education and philanthropy. They are Robert Cohen, chair of the N.J. Institute of Technology’s Board of Trustees and president of Stryker’s Digital, Robotics, and Enabling Technologies; Vincent C. Tizzio, president and CEO of AXIS Capital; and Brendan Coughlin, vice chair and head of consumer banking for Citizens.

Cohen leads Stryker’s efforts to enhance surgical procedures through advanced technologies, including robotics and digital healthcare solutions. In his more than 35 years in the medical device industry, he has pioneered innovations in orthopedics, joint replacement, and spinal implants.

Tizzio has led AXIS Capital, a global leader in specialty insurance and reinsurance, to record growth and has expanded its offerings to small-to-mid-sized businesses. He is committed to educational and philanthropic initiatives.

Coughlin has driven the growth and innovation of Citizens’ consumer banking division, including the bank’s expanding footprint in New Jersey. His leadership has strengthened Citizens’ position as a top-tier financial institution.

The dinner is Tri-County’s largest fundraising event, supporting scholarships for financially disadvantaged students in Morris, Passaic, and Sussex counties.

Proceeds will benefit scholarships for financially vulnerable New Jersey children in grades K–12 to attend safe, independent schools. For the 2024–25 school year just beginning, the fund has committed scholarships for 870 children.

Since its founding in 1981, Tri-County has awarded over 38,000 scholarships, totaling more than $38 million, enabling students to attend safe, quality, values-based independent schools. The fund is the largest supporter of the diocesan schools, annually providing over $1.7 million in scholarships.
