Holy Spirit School celebrates Catholic Schools Week

Guided by the theme, “Inspiring Minds, Igniting Faith, and Shaping the Future,” Holy Spirit School in Pequannock, N.J., will celebrate Catholic Schools Week (CSW) this year with special events during the week-long observance under the direction of Filippini Sister Marie Antonelli, principal, and Father Cesar Jaramillo, pastor of Holy Spirit Parish.

The school’s mission is to educate the children’s minds, strengthen their God-given intellectual powers, satisfy their souls with knowledge of their faith, strengthen their bodies with organized physical activity, and provide the setting where they are taught to interact with love and consideration for each other. The words of Jesus enjoining us to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength and all your mind and “Love your neighbor as you love yourself”( Luke 10:27) inform this mission.

Monday of CSW is a celebration of the community. The student body will gather for the annual STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Challenge. On Tuesday, the student government will hold a meeting to update the school on what has been going on and what is coming soon.

On Wednesday there will be a celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary with a school-wide patriotic trivia challenge. Thursday will celebrate vocations with activities in religion classes, ending with a Color Wars Pep Rally featuring the traditional eighth-grade vs. teachers volleyball game. The final day of CSW on Friday will begin with a Mass at 8:30 a.m.

Throughout the year, Holy Spirit School provides its students daily opportunities to be successful inside of the classroom with rigorous Cognia accredited curriculum and a variety of activities. Holy Spirit also offers boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, cheerleading, games clubs, student government, National Junior Honor Society, photography club, choir, newsletter, TREP$, and performing arts. This year the performing arts program will present “Newsies” during the week of March 19–22.

Holy Spirit welcomes family visits for anyone interested in learning more about the school. The close-knit community of students, parents, and faculty are eager to welcome new members to the Holy Spirit family.
