Golfers take a swing to benefit people in need

Golfers played 18 holes at Crystal Springs Resort in Hamburg on June 17 at the 50th annual Wiegand Farm Golf Classic to benefit the agencies of Catholic Charities and support services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, veterans, seniors, children, and families in crisis, and those struggling with addictive disorders.

Many priests of the diocese were among the golfers, including Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney. Catholic Charities honored Arthur Powis as Humanitarian of the Year, David Coppola as Knight of the Year, and Val DiGiacinto as Veteran Partner of the Year.

“Thank you to our amazing sponsors, golfers, and donors for joining all of us on this beautiful day. We are still in awe of our incredible volunteers, golf committee, staff, and Department for Persons with Disabilities residents for helping to make this event an unforgettable experience,” Catholic Charities posted on social media.
