Deacon Paul Auguste Liotard of Kernersville, N.C., died on July 23. He was a retired permanent deacon of the Paterson Diocese. He was 86.
In 1991, Deacon Liotard was ordained a deacon. He served St. Mary’s Parish in Pompton Lakes and Annunciation Parish in Wayne, before moving out of state.
A funeral Mass previously took place for Deacon Liotard in Holy Cross Church in Kerners-ville, N.C.
Born in 1938, in Paterson, Deacon Liotard was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959. For more than 40 years, he was plant operations director for various hospitals in New Jersey: St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chilton Memorial Hospital, and St. Mary’s Hospital.
Deacon Liotard earned a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and a master’s degree at William Paterson University in public administration.
Deacon Liotard and his wife, Rosemary, moved to Mount Pocono, Pa., for a few years before moving to King, N.C., in 2006 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He served as a deacon at Holy Angels Parish in Mount Airy, N.C., and then retired from diaconal ministry in 2013.
In 2015, Deacon Liotard and Rosemary moved to Kernersville, N.C.
Deacon Liotard is predeceased by his parents; his sister, Catherine; his brother, Robert; and his half-sister, Gladys Farino. He is survived by Rosemary, his wife of 64 years; his daughter, Patti; his son, Tom, and wife, Marta; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth and Paul Liotard.
