Clifton parish honors saints called ‘Apostles to the Slavs’

Ss. Cyril and Methodius Parish in Clifton celebrated a trilingual Mass — in English, Spanish, and Slovak — to honor its patron saints on Feb. 14.

Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney was the main celebrant. Father Misael Jaramillo, Ss. Cyril and Methodius pastor; Father Charles Waller, a retired priest of the Paterson Diocese who lives at the parish; and Father Peter Bujdos, a member of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri, who assists at the parish, concelebrated the Mass with Bishop Sweeney. Deacon Eugenio Morales assisted with the Mass. Some parishioners wore native dress.

Cyril and Methodius were two missionaries, brothers from Thessaloniki, who popularized Christianity in the 9th century by spreading the Gospel throughout Eastern Europe. They are now known as the “Apostles to the Slavs.”
