Carmelite sister makes solemn vows to life of prayer

Sister Tirzah Gan Nahul of the Creator, a member of the Discalced Carmelites of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, made her solemn vows before Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney on May 20 in the community’s monastery in Morristown. Sister Nahul is a native of Gaum. The Carmelite Sisters have a rigorous daily schedule of eight hours of prayer, manual labor, some recreation, and contemplation. They strive to make them-selves more pleasing to God. The Carmelites adhere to strict silence so their prayers may be more contin-uous. Through self-sacrifice, silence, penance, and prayer, they offer their lives as a prayer to God for all humanity.
