Academy helps Los Angeles students after wildfires

The Academy of St. James in Totowa on Jan. 30 welcomed Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney, who celebrated a Mass for Catholic Schools Week, observed nationally last week.

Father Marc Mancini, pastor of St. James Parish; Father Joseph Mactal, St. James’ parochial vicar; and Father Paul Iovino, a retired priest of the Paterson Diocese, concelebrated the Mass with Bishop Sweeney. The academy’s staff, faculty, students, and families attended the liturgy. Many students participated in the Mass.

Students presented Bishop Sweeney with donations they raised, which are intended for a Catholic school in Los Angeles, a city recently ravaged by wildfires that have been contained. They also presented him with a book that expresses how they cherish the Academy of St. James. The youngest students drew pictures while others wrote their sentiments.
