The New Jersey Catholic Conference (NJCC) has launched a NJCC Education Freedom Tax Credit website to provide a centralized resource for parents, students, schools, communities, potential donors, and legislators to learn about the tax credit, how it could benefit students and taxpayers, understand how they can support the effort, and sign up for updates as the process develops.
The Education Freedom Tax Credit, also known as the Federal Educational Tax Credit, allows individuals to donate up to $1,700 per year to authorized Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs) and receive a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit.
Eligible families and students in both public and non-public schools (including homeschooling where applicable) can receive funds from these organizations as scholarships for school-related K-12 expenses. Funds pay for schooling expenses, including tuition, supplies, and remedial and enrichment services.
But the benefits aren’t automatic. Like all states, the State of New Jersey must take action to participate in this federally funded program by Dec. 31. If New Jersey opts in, SGOs can begin receiving contributions under this tax credit on Jan. 1, 2027. This is a federally funded program with no state taxpayer dollars required.

The new website provides general information about the tax credit, along with promotional materials that can be used to promote it to key audiences and adapted to various communication styles while maintaining consistent messaging.
This resource is evolving in real time as federal guidance, state decisions, deadlines, and other developments become available.
Those interested can sign up on the website and follow the NJCC on social media for updates. They are also encouraged to spread the word about the Education Freedom Tax Credit, which was enacted in 2025 within the Federal Budget Reconciliation bill (One Big Beautiful Bill Act), and share njscholarshipcredit.org with their families, parishes, schools, and communities.
