Nearly 100 members, clergy, civic leaders, family members and friends gathered at Perona Farms on June 4 to celebrate the 125th Anniversary Gala of Knights of Columbus Marquette Council 588, commemorating more than a century of faith-filled service to the Catholic Church and Sussex County, New Jersey.
During the evening the council’s Past Grand Knights, whose leadership has shaped Marquette Council for generations, were recognized. About 10 Past Grand Knights traveled from New Jersey and across the country, joined by the wives and families of several deceased Past Grand Knights, reflecting the enduring legacy of faithful leadership.
Founded in Franklin Furnace and chartered on June 30, 1901, Marquette Council was the 588th Knights of Columbus council established worldwide. For 125 years, the council has served its parishes and local communities through charitable outreach, youth programs, support for veterans, scholarships and assistance to families in need.
The celebration featured fellowship, dinner, historical exhibits and recognition of members, while highlighting the council’s continued commitment to serving Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Sparta, N.J., St. Thomas of Aquin Parish in Ogdensburg, N.J., and Immaculate Conception Parish in Franklin, N.J.
Following the gala, Marquette Council received letters of commendation from the Supreme Knight and the Governor of New Jersey, and the Sparta Township Council presented an official proclamation.
Looking ahead, the council continues to expand Cor, its monthly faith formation program for Catholic men, while inviting new members to join in its mission of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.
