A delegation of 15 faithful from the Paterson Diocese joined nearly 150 leaders from Catholic dioceses in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for the annual Region III Encuentro of Hispanic Leaders on May 24 in Hammonton within the Camden Diocese.
The Region III representative, Maria Moncaleano, also the director of the Paterson Diocesan Hispanic Ministry, facilitated the day, which was guided by the theme “Bearers of Hope.” The event featured talks by Hispanic ministry directors, music, prayer, and a meal.
Moncaleano also invited the students of Paterson’s Leadership Certificate program to participate.

Bishop Joseph Williams of the Camden Diocese accompanied Encuentro participants during the day. He celebrated Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church, part of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Parish in Hammonton.
“What a sign of hope we have as we see Latino leaders in this Jubilee Year of Hope coming together to foster unity,” Bishop Williams told participants.
Maria Moncaleano is the director of Hispanic Ministry for the Paterson Diocese.
