After months of rehearsals, the middle school students of St. Anthony School in Hawthorne, N.J. put on a show-stopping performance of Disney’s musical “Newsies.”
Directed and choreographed by Tiffany DellaCroce, with music direction by Paula Kraft, the production showcased the abilities of its young cast. Among the performers was Jaysun Lahm as Jack Kelly, who will continue pursuing theatre at St. Joseph Regional High School where he has been awarded the prestigious John Asselta Theatre Scholarship. Delilah Feliz was also featured and will be heading to The Thatcher School in California this fall.
Additional highlighted performances included eighth graders Toby Serell and Henry Mulholland in the roles of brothers Davey and Les, and seventh grader Matthew Barone, who portrayed Crutchie.
The success of Newsies follows a busy year for the St. Anthony School Theatre Program which is currently nominated for nine Foxy Awards including Best Production for last year’s performance of “The Sound of Music.” The awards will be presented on May 20.
