We usually live life cyclically and unconsciously, doing the same thing every day and going through the motions. Pope Francis is calling Catholics everywhere to step away from the everyday this Jubilee Year of Hope 2025 by going on a pilgrimage.
But what is a pilgrimage? In a new video, Father Paul Manning, vicar for evangelization for the Paterson Diocese, calls it “a physical or spiritual journey” to change the pilgrim. The faithful can visit sites worldwide, including Rome, and many designated by Kevin J. Sweeney in the Paterson Diocese for the Jubilee.
The pilgrimage video is part of a series in English and Spanish that the diocese created about the holy year, covering topics such as the Holy Door and Jubilee indulgence.
“The whole year is trying to reset us on the pilgrim way toward God,” Father Manning said in the pilgrimage video with Joana Schmidt, associate director of diocesan catechesis. Watch as he suggests ways to prepare for a pilgrimage.
There are 12 long-form videos and 11 shorter 1-minute episodes. Watch the video series on Paterson’s Jubilee homepage.
