David De Simone, JD, MHL, CPHRM, has been named St. Joseph’s Health’s new senior vice president, chief administrative officer, and general counsel, effective Jan. 13. He joins a new leadership team headed by Dustin M. Riccio, M.D., president and chief executive officer.
“We look forward to welcoming David to our leadership team as we continue to expand our footprint and offer the most accessible, high-quality care in the region,” Riccio said.
De Simone brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in healthcare. He recently was chief counsel responsible for strategic growth and compliance for Ohio Living, a multi-site senior living, home health, and hospice organization in Columbus, Ohio.
He also has deep ties in New Jersey healthcare and policy. De Simone worked in the U.S. Senate for Bill Bradley and led the legal, risk, and compliance teams for AtlantiCare Health System in Egg Harbor Township and CentraState Health System in Freehold, collectively for nearly 20 years. At AtlantiCare, he helped achieve the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and develop a long-term acute care hospital, an offshore captive insurance company, and one of the state’s first accountable care organizations. At CentraState, De Simone broadened the organization’s physician network, secured approval for a cardiac catheterization lab, forged unique partnerships, and implemented its strategic plan.
“I’m thrilled to return to New Jersey to join an institution with a history of excellence and service to the community,” De Simone said. “We will work together to create innovative provider arrangements to offer the best care to our patients when and where they need it.”
De Simone earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational behavior and management and a master’s in healthcare leadership from Brown University. He also earned a juris doctorate from Seton Hall University School of Law. De Simone comes from a healthcare family. His father serves as medical director of a volunteer medical clinic in northern New Jersey, and his mother is a professor of nursing. He and his wife have two children: a son in college and a daughter in high school.
