Parsippany parish hosts Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration

On Dec. 11, Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney led a celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe during a Mass at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Parsippany. Our Lady of Guadalupe’s feast day is Dec. 12.

Bishop Sweeney celebrated the Mass in Spanish and English. Father David Pickens, St. Peter’s pastor, and Father Yojaneider Garcia, director of the Office of Catechesis and Faith Formation of the Paterson Diocese, concelebrated the Mass with the bishop.

Several children dressed in costumes and garments of their native countries and cultures.

In 1531, the Blessed Mother appeared four times in Mexico to St. Juan Diego, asking for a church to be built in her honor. These apparitions are called Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas, specifically Mexico, mothers, and the unborn.
