Holy Spirit Parish and School welcomed Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney on Dec. 8, who celebrated a Mass in the church for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. After, he blessed and presented class rings to the eighth-graders during a ceremony.
Father Cesar Jaramillo, pastor of Holy Spirit, concelebrated the Mass with Bishop Sweeney. The priest briefly spoke of the Immaculate Conception, a dogma declared by Pope Pius IX in 1854. The dogma proclaimed that the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, was preserved from all stain of original sin from the first moment of her conception.

“How providential that, as we recall God’s wonders in the life of our Blessed Mother, our 8th graders will receive their class rings at the end of this Mass, thus marking the beginning of the end of this stage of their lives, but looking forward to what the Lord has in store for them as they pursue their education throughout their high school years,” Father Jaramillo said.
Filippini Sister Marie Antonelli, principal of Holy Spirit School, assisted Bishop Sweeney with distributing the rings to the eighth-graders during the ceremony, attended by parents, family, first- to seventh-grade students, and parishioners.
