Father Sebastián Muñoz Chavarría celebrated his first Mass of Thanksgiving on June 2, the Feast of Corpus Christi, at his home parish, St. Vincent de Paul, in the Stirling neighborhood of Long Hill Township. The Mass happened a day after Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney ordained him to the priesthood of the Paterson Diocese, during a Mass in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Paterson on June 1. Concelebrating priests for Father Muñoz’s first Mass were from the Paterson Diocese and beyond. Father Richard Carton, St. Vincent’s pastor, delivered the homily. Members of his seminary community participated in the liturgy. Some of Father Muñoz’s family and faithful from many parishes attended the Mass.
