On Sept. 8, Carmelite Sister Faustina Gloria of the Merciful Heart of Jesus made solemn vows at the Monastery of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel in Morristown, N.J., before Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney during a Mass he celebrated.
Born in Ghana, Sister Faustina Gloria moved to the United States with her family at age eight.
Concelebrating the Mass were Father Brendan Murray, a retired priest of the Paterson Diocese, N.J., who regularly celebrates Mass at the monastery, and other priests who are close to Sister Faustina Gloria. Friends and family also attended.
The Discalced Carmelites are a cloistered order with a schedule that includes eight hours of prayer each day, manual labor, some recreation, and contemplation. The sisters observe strict silence so their prayers may be more continuous.
