Bishop Sweeney, Father Nevitt installed as chaplains for the Order of Malta

Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney was installed as chaplain for the Order of Malta at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City on Nov. 15. Father Alex Nevitt, administrator of St. Bonaventure Parish in Paterson, was also invested as a deputy chaplain.

The bishop shared on his Instagram page: “It was a great privilege to be installed as chaplain of the Order of Malta. From around the Diocese, it was wonderful to be accompanied by fellow chaplains Father Philip-Michael Tangorra [pastor of Queen of Peace Parish in Branchville and advocate in the Tribunal], and Father Owen Moran [pastor of St. Vincent Martyr Parish in Madison], and the many Knights and Dames of Malta who serve in our Diocese.”

The Order of Malta is a lay religious organization that serves in several ministries, such as caring for the homeless, ministering to those in jail, and serving the dying. The organization has a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother.
