Morris Township academy celebrates life of Blessed Miriam Teresa

On the morning of Oct. 6, the Academy of St. Elizabeth in the Convent Station neighborhood of Morris Township, N.J., welcomed Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney, who celebrated the academy’s annual Bishop’s Mass, commemorating the 12th anniversary of the beatification of Blessed Miriam Teresa Demjanovich.

Blessed Demjanovich was a prayerful woman and gifted writer who had an enormous impact before her untimely death at age 26. She was a member of the Sisters of Charity of Convent Station, the religious community that founded and continues to operate the Academy of St. Elizabeth.

During Mass, Bishop Sweeney spoke about the importance of servant leadership, reflected not only in the life of Blessed Miriam Teresa, but also in the lives of the academy’s newly commissioned extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion. He blessed our six newest extraordinary Eucharistic ministers and challenged them to live as servant leaders, both within the Church and beyond.

Father Krzysztof Tyszko, parochial vicar of Assumption Parish in Morristown, served as master of ceremonies for the Mass, which included participation from members of the academy community.

“The Academy warmly thanks Bishop Sweeney for his kind, pastoral care for our Academy community and looks forward to his next visit to Convent Station,” the Academy of St. Elizabeth posted on social media.
