Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney will ordain Carlos Vargas, a seminarian of the Paterson Diocese, N.J., to the transitional diaconate on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at St Anthony Of Padua Church in Passaic, N.J.
Vargas’ ordination to the transitional diaconate marks the last step toward his anticipated ordination to the priesthood of the diocese next year.
All are invited to attend the ordination.
Vargas originates from Barranquilla in the northern part of Columbia. His grandmother taught him to pray the rosary. He was an altar server as his parish, Church was St. Dominic. Then, Vargas traveled to the United States, arriving in the Paterson Diocese in 2017.
Throughout his time in the diocese, Vargas as involved with local parishes, including St. Margaret of Scotland in Morristown, N.J., Our Lady of the Magnificat in Kinnelon, N.J., and Holy Spirit in Pequannock, N.J.
Vargas was also among the diocesan representatives who attended the 2024 National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, Ind.
