Love and marriage were celebrated on Nov. 17, when 74 couples came to the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Paterson to mark their silver and gold wedding anniversaries at the Paterson Diocesan annual Silver and Gold Wedding Mass.
Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney was the main celebrant of the Mass, with several priests from around the diocese concelebrating. The Diocesan Family Life Office coordinated the liturgy.
Couples marking 25, 50, or more years of marriage celebrated, often with their families present. They exchanged vows holding hands, like on their wedding days. Before Bishop Sweeney, they renewed their love, fidelity, and commitment to each other in Holy Matrimony.
The couples received certificates signed by Bishop Sweeney honoring their anniversaries. Each couple was invited to meet the bishop and take a photo with him.
