Vocations Ministry groups get help encouraging young people to hear calling

The Vocations Office of the Paterson Diocese on Dec. 14 helped strengthen new Vocation Ministry groups started in several local parishes with a workshop and retreat at St. Paul Inside the Walls in Madison.

About 20 members of six parish Vocation Ministry groups attended the event, which began with a reflection by Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney. He also led participants in morning prayer.

New to the diocese, parish Vocations Ministry groups hold various events to encourage young people to consider vocations to married life, religious life, and especially the priesthood. They work under the leadership of their pastors and with the Vocations Office.

Father Ed Rama, diocesan vocations director, and Father Charles Lana, assistant vocations director, spoke about how their office can help support their ministries during the workshop and retreat. Members of the various parish groups also talked about their progress and the events they have been holding.
