Students urged to be saints at Catholic Schools Week Mass

/

Our Lady of Mount Carmel School (OLMC) in Boonton on Jan. 28, the feast of St. Thomas Aquinas, welcomed Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney, who celebrated a Mass with the entire school during Catholic Schools Week.

Drawing upon the example of the “Angelic Doctor,” as St. Thomas is known, and his childhood formation, Bishop Sweeney exhorted students to heed the universal call to become saints. He urged them to develop their skills and aptitudes to the fullest, reminding them that it is at the intersection of their talents and God’s will that the world will finally know justice and peace.

On Jan. 22, Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney visited Lumen Gentium Academy, OLMC’s high school, where he led juniors and seniors in a seminar about the sanctity of life.

Serving families from two states, eight counties, and three different dioceses, OLMC strives to prepare pre-K through 12th-grade students for lives of purpose and joy through a whole-person approach to education that prioritizes serious academic study, intentional character formation, and fidelity to Jesus.

“The Our Lady of Mount Carmel community was deeply gratified by the bishop’s presence and is grateful for his enthusiastic support for and partnership in its educational mission, said Father Daniel O’Mullane, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and president and rector, K-12.
