Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney installed Father Luis A. Hernandez as pastor of St. Christopher Parish in Parsippany, during a Mass on July 28. He was named St. Christopher’s parochial vicar in 2022 and pastor on June 29, 2023.
Several priests concelebrated the Mass with Bishop Sweeney, the main celebrant. Father Hernandez’s family, friends, and parishioners attended, as well as the Parsippany Knights of Columbus and Columbiettes. An outdoor reception was held afterward.
Father Hernandez was born on July 18, 1988, in Colombia, Pitalito — Huila. He completed his philosophy studies in Colombia in 2010, before arriving in the next year. He earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Holy Apostles College and Seminary, Ct., in 2013 and a Master of Divinity in 2015.
Bishop Emeritus Arthur J. Serratelli ordained Father Hernandez on May 23, 2015. He also served as parochial vicar of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Paterson and St. Peter the Apostle Parish in Parsippany.
