The Spanish-speaking faithful of St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in Morristown came together on Oct. 12 for a Hispanic Heritage Mass to recognize the richness and diversity of their culture, rooted in faith and hope.
Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney celebrated the Spanish-language Mass in observance of Hispanic Heritage Month. Father Duberney Villamizar, St. Margaret’s pastor and diocesan vicar for Hispanic affairs, and Father Sebastián Muñoz Chavarría, parochial vicar, concelebrated the Mass.
The Mass began with a procession of parishioners carrying the flags of their countries of origin in the church and wearing native dress.
“This occasion reminds us that, even though we come from different countries and traditions, we are one family in Christ. May we continue to be a community where love, solidarity, and mutual service prevail, where everyone feels welcomed and valued,” according to a social media post by St. Margaret’s.
