Knights honor those serving intellectually and developmentally disabled

The Knights of Columbus George Washington Council 359 honored individuals and organizations serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities on Oct. 4 during their 10th annual Mass and Dinner of Appreciation.

Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney celebrated the Mass at Assumption Church in Morristown and also blessed couples celebrating their wedding anniversaries in October.

During the dinner, the knights honored the following recipients:

• Kathleen Hyland, a board member of ArcMorris, dedicated to serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, with its Lifetime Achievement Award.

• Ken Kramer, a knights’ leader who has volunteered at many organizations, such as the Interfaith Food Pantry and the Carmelites of Morristown, with its Knight of the Year Award.

• Supreme Knight Jim Koons, a volunteer in many parish and civic endeavors, such as altar server coordinator and volunteering at DAWN Center for Independent Living (DAWNcil) for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with the Ambassador of the Year Award.

The knights recognized representatives from ArcMorris, DAWNcil, Kids2Kids, and the PG Chambers School for children with disabilities.

Bishop Sweeney and Msgr. John Hart, Assumption’s pastor and clergy personnel director for the Paterson Diocese, attended the dinner with many public officials.
