At Jersey 360 Jamboree, Boy Scouts, leaders share faith

More than 100 Boy Scouts and scout leaders joined for a Mass with Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney on Oct. 26 during the Jersey 360 Jamboree at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta. The Patriots Path Council held the jamboree, which attracted 2,800 participants.

The Catholic Committee on Scouting of the Paterson Diocese coordinated the Mass, which Bishop Sweeney celebrated. Father Christopher Barkhausen, pastor of St. Francis de Sales Parish in the McAfee neighborhood of Vernon and the Catholic Committee’s chaplain, concelebrated the Mass. He is also an Eagle Scout.

Several scouts were altar servers and lectors for the Mass.

Catholic Committee members also staffed a booth at the jamboree promoting Catholic Scouting and spoke to scouts and scouters about its programs.
